Hello - I just wondered if anyone has had any issues with their Creatinine levals while on MTX and Pred? 3 months ago I saw my Rheum and on Monday at my next clinic appt where I was seen by the rheum nurse I was told he had queried why my creatinine levels were over 100 and has made a note that maybe kidney function tests should be carried out - does anyone know what this means and whether my creatinine levels are very high?

They've hovered around the 90-100 mark for about a year although last week they were 77 - as far as I can tell looking at the back of my book normal is between 60-125 but varies with age - well, I'm 33.... so are my results high or not....all very confusing! If anyone could shed some light I'd be ever so grateful!

My record book shows normal for a female is 20-107 micromol/L. For a male it goes up to 120. I'm always around 100.......and I'm alright! Smile

No idea I'm afraid Maud - I've always had mine measured - mind you I've always been on pred so maybe!

Thanks for your reply RedDog - I wonder if being at the upper limit is not good for someone of my age.....?

Hi i have my creatinine levels checked monthly, purple book same thing got range of numbers depends on sex and age.
um right now mine been always enar 77 and last time was 81 gp said just over limit.
but not enough take action on for me due to me having kidney test anyway to do with possibly having lupus.
im 38.
on mtx and planequil mtx since feb 2008 .

it does tend vary,so for me now they are looking for a sudden increase or gradual climb then drop abck down.

i havnt asked anymore as was only 1 notch above my limit docs do keep close eye on these things.
anymore detail id woudlnt know id ask your gp to explain it more or ask rheumy nurse about it.
to put your mind at ease.

I'm on MTX & Prednisolone and have been having my U & E's (or U & C's to some) checked fortnightly but unfortunatley they haven't recorded the results in my little booky wook.

Yes they should check kidney function whilst on MTX and yours don't sound overly high.......

Loads of pain killers like Panadols can sometimes upset kidney function too..

Have the bloods repeated perhaps?

Love,

Amanda

Hiya,

sounds like you are in the 'monitoring' phase where people start thinking maybe keep an extra eye on this, but no action needs to be taken.

I have had high creatinine levels and low GFR since long before I started RA. I've been on all the DMARDs and now on hydro, pred and Humira and have always had creatinine and GFR done each time at the request of my rheumy.

All this time I have been monitored every so often with occasional 24hr urines. Also had a cystoscopy and ultrasound years ago - but that was more because I also have blood in my urine and high blood pressure.

The meds have made the readings worse, particularly Cyclosporine which knocked my GFR right down and I had to come off it. Even with all this it is only a watching brief and trying to make sure the meds don't do anymore damage.

It is good they are aware of your readings, and you may have more tests, but please don't worry - it's one of those things that rumble along.

ps my creatinine bobbed along at just below 100 and is now consistently over, but does go up and down!

Just one more delight to put up with!!Huh

take care
Alison xx
